Duana Brashear earned her undergraduate degree in Academic Studies from Sam Houston State University in 2005. She taught first grade in Splendora, Texas at Greenleaf Elementary. There Mrs. Brashear fostered her love of teaching, but had a strong desire to work with students in a testable grade level, resulting in a move to third grade at Cameron Elementary in Cameron, Texas. She taught third grade for ten years, which also included summer school assignments in third, fourth, and fifth grade, giving her the opportunity to work with struggling students in a small group setting.
In August 2015, Mrs. Brashear graduated from Sam Houston State University with a Master of Education in Administration. In January 2016 she opted to continue her education by working toward a second Master of Education with an emphasis on Curriculum and Instruction. Through her coursework and administrative experiences she has found a passion for working with students who struggle academically and socially. She firmly believes in educating the “whole child” through consistent and restorative behavior modification techniques. In August 2016 Duana returned to Splendora ISD to serve as the assistant principal of Peach Creek Elementary.
Mrs. Brashear is now a proud member of the Lexington ISD family as the Assistant Principal of Lexington Elementary School. She is ecstatic to be a Lexington Eagle joining in as “One town, one school, one family!” Mrs. Brashear is eager to impact the students, staff, and community in a positive manner. She strongly believes in open dialogue and active communication with all constituents. Duana is married to James Brashear. She has two stepchildren, Bryce (17) and Brittany (20), and a twelve year old daughter, Kylie. Mrs. Brashear’s favorite quote is, “Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all.”-Aristotle
